NEX Aero is developing autonomous heavy-lift cargo drones (vertical take-off and landing) for offshore and maritime logistics. The aircraft can carry up to 100 kg of time-critical cargo to ships, offshore platforms, and remote sites, and is designed to operate in salt water, wind, and on moving decks. The company is initially focusing on missions such as resupplying vessels and delivering parts to wind farms, and plans to expand into inland logistics.

About the role
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineering Working Student to support our development team bringing next-gen UAV concepts to life - from early CAD design to flight-ready prototypes. You'll gain hands-on experience across design, assembly, and testing of full-scale cargo drones.

Your responsibilities
- Support mechanical and structural design in OnShape
- Assist in prototyping, 3D-printing and mechanical assembly of UAV components
- Contribute to integration and testing of propulsion, flight control, and avionics systems
- Prepare and conduct prototype (flight-)test campaigns, together with the engineering team
- Collaborate across disciplines (aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and systems engineering)
Your profile
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Proficient in CAD software (OnShape, Solidworks, or similar)
- Familiarity with FEM or CDF tools is a plus
- Experience with prototyping and 3D-printing
- Hands-on experience with UAVs, RC aircraft or aerospace related student projects is a plus
- Maker mindset - comfortable in shopfloors, soldering, assembling, and testing
- Organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong communication skills, and fluency in English (German or other languages are a plus)
