Finance & Business Operations Lead at Takt
Takt is hiring a Finance & Business Operations Lead in Reston, VA, US. On-site. Pay: USD 130k-180k/yr.
About Takt
Takt is a warehouse intelligence platform that unifies labor, automation, and robotics data for third-party logistics providers, retailers, and e-commerce companies. Its software includes labor management tools, AI-powered insights, and gamification to help warehouse teams improve productivity and efficiency.
Finance & Business Operations Lead job description
Takt builds software that enables some of the world's largest warehouse, distribution, and logistics organizations to create highly engaged and efficient teams. We empower operators at every level to improve performance, drive profitability, and grow their careers. In both our products and our people, we aim to reflect, represent, and advocate for warehouse and logistics teams globally.
We are seeking a Finance & Business Operations Lead to own the financial operations of Takt and help build the financial and operating discipline we need as we scale.
This is a broad, hands-on role spanning financial operations, financial planning and analysis, business operations, and revenue analytics. You will own the day-to-day mechanics of running the company's finances—from invoicing, payments, expenses, cash management, and reporting—while also building budgets, forecasts, Board reporting, and analysis that helps company leadership make better decisions.
This is not an oversight-only role. Initially, you will be a team of one and will personally do much of the work you own. We are looking for someone equally comfortable building a multi-year financial model and figuring out why a customer invoice hasn't been paid; preparing a Board financial package and processing an expense reimbursement; or recommending a cash-management strategy and then helping implement it.
As Takt grows, this role has the opportunity to grow with the company and help define and ultimately build our broader Finance and Business Operations function.
This role partners directly with company leadership and is located in our Reston, VA office.
What You'll Own
Finance Operations
Own the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, customer invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and expense administration.
Own and administer Takt's corporate card and expense-management processes, including Ramp payments and employee reimbursements.
Maintain clear and accurate visibility into company cash, expenses, receivables, payables, and other key financial information.
Coordinate the monthly financial close and ensure leadership has timely, reliable financial reporting.
Manage banking relationships and company cash balances.
Evaluate and recommend appropriate cash and liquidity strategies and administer approved strategies consistent with the company's liquidity needs and financial controls.
Coordinate with outside accounting, tax, banking, insurance, and other financial partners as appropriate.
Continuously improve the processes and controls surrounding the company's financial operations.
Financial Planning & Strategic Finance
Own the company's annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes.
Maintain and improve Takt's financial model and forward-looking operating plan.
Track actual performance against budget and forecast, identify meaningful variances, and help leadership understand what is driving them.
Monitor cash burn, runway, revenue growth, hiring plans, and other key operating and financial metrics.
Develop scenario analyses to support decisions around hiring, investment, pricing, growth, and other company priorities.
Prepare recurring financial and operating analysis for the Leadership Team.
Prepare financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, KPI analysis, and other materials for Board meetings.
Help leadership translate company strategy into measurable financial plans and operating targets.
Business Operations
Own the administrative coordination of payroll and Takt's relationship with our PEO, Paychex Flex.
Coordinate employee changes and other payroll/benefits-related administrative processes with Paychex and company leadership.
Manage recurring company administrative and compliance requirements, including applicable local, state, and federal registrations, filings, licenses, and reporting.
Coordinate business-license, BPOL, business personal property, and similar company reporting requirements.
Maintain calendars and processes so recurring business obligations are completed accurately and on time.
Take ownership of the miscellaneous operational issues that inevitably arise in a growing company, determine the right solution, and drive them to completion.
This is not an HR role. Many HR and employment-administration activities are supported by our PEO and other partners. We need someone who can own the business processes surrounding those relationships and ensure things get done correctly.
Revenue Operations & Analytics
Partner with Sales leadership to improve visibility from pipeline to bookings to recognized and forecasted revenue.
Use HubSpot, contractual commitments, historical performance, and other data to build and maintain reliable revenue forecasts.
Help establish clear reporting around bookings, pipeline, renewals, revenue, and other commercial metrics.
Partner across Finance and Sales to ensure customer contracts, invoicing, bookings, and revenue expectations remain aligned.
What We're Looking For
Approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience in finance, strategic finance, FP&A, accounting/finance operations, or a related role. Exceptional candidates with somewhat less or more experience are welcome.
A strong financial and analytical foundation, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and actual-versus-plan analysis.
Hands-on experience with financial operations such as invoicing, AP/AR, expense management, monthly reporting, or cash management.
Excellent spreadsheet and analytical skills and an ability to turn financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
Strong business judgment and comfort working with sensitive financial and employee information.
A high degree of ownership. You don't wait for someone else to identify the problem, define the process, or do the work.
Comfort working in an environment where some processes are well established and others still need to be invented.
The ability to move easily between strategic and tactical work.
Strong communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly to company leadership.
A genuine interest in building the systems, processes, and discipline required to scale a growing company.
Nice to Have
Experience at a high-growth SaaS, software, or technology company.
Experience in an early-stage or growth-stage company where you operated with a high degree of autonomy.
Experience preparing financial materials for executives, investors, or Boards.
Experience with Ramp, Paychex Flex, HubSpot, or comparable platforms.
Experience working with outside accountants, tax advisors, auditors, banks, or other financial partners.
CPA, finance/accounting background, or equivalent experience.
Familiarity with SaaS metrics and recurring-revenue business models.
The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here
You may have spent the first several years of your career becoming very good at finance and are now looking for the opportunity to own more of the business.
You enjoy analysis and strategy, but you don't believe you're above the operational work required to make a company run well. You are comfortable creating the spreadsheet, making the recommendation, implementing the process, and then running it.
You like having a wide field of responsibility. When something falls between functions, your instinct is to figure it out rather than point out that it belongs to someone else.
Most importantly, you want the opportunity to build. Takt is growing, and the person who succeeds in this role will have the opportunity to help shape what Finance and Business Operations become as the company scales.
How Success Is Measured
Company financial information is accurate, timely, understandable, and readily available to leadership.
AP, AR, invoicing, expenses, payroll administration, and other recurring financial processes run reliably.
Leadership and the Board have clear visibility into actual performance, budgets, forecasts, cash, runway, and key business drivers.
Forecasting accuracy and financial planning improve as the company scales.
Takt's cash is managed thoughtfully while maintaining appropriate liquidity and controls.
Recurring business, payroll, and compliance obligations are completed correctly and on time.
Revenue forecasts increasingly connect pipeline, bookings, contracts, billing, and actual revenue.
Financial and operational processes become more scalable and less dependent on company leadership handling them personally.
The role anticipates problems, identifies opportunities, and progressively increases the operating leverage of the company.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
Ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace where we learn from each other is core to Takt's values. We welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and supportive place to work. Takt will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations to participate in the interview process, perform essential job functions, and receive other benefits of employment.
