Product Engineer, Systems Architect job description

About Wispr

Wispr is an AI research and product company building the voice interface for computing. AI can now reason, code, and act. Yet, humans still do the work of the interface. We think that’s backwards.

Our first products are Flow, which lets you speak naturally in any application, and Notetaker, which builds context across conversations. We’re building toward an interface that can perceive, understand, and take action with earned trust. That means solving hard problems across models, systems, and product - and caring about the final human experience as deeply as the technology underneath it.

We’re a talent-dense team that holds strong opinions, tests them quickly, and builds technology that sparks joy. Our goal is to build the first voice interface used every day by a billion people.

About the role

You’ll own the hard systems at the center of our product surface, across existing products, new launches, or feature-specific initiatives. You’ll make ambiguous quality problems measurable, solve them at their root, and build approaches the team can reuse.

What you'll do

  • Build the detection, inference, state, and delivery systems behind critical experiences

  • Instrument difficult problems before choosing a solution

  • Establish evidence of correctness when ground truth is unavailable

  • Make principled tradeoffs across imperfect signals, edge cases, and user impact

  • Turn persistent quality problems into comprehensible, repeatable systems

  • Partner with product and platform teams to determine where systems should live

You may be a fit if

  • You’ve shipped a complex system with interacting failure modes

  • You’ve owned a system whose correctness was difficult to observe

  • You’ve defined a quality metric whose meaning was itself contested

  • You combine systems thinking with product intuition and user empathy

  • You’re a recent, hands-on implementer who follows problems across boundaries

  • You are detail-oriented, think from first principles, and own ambiguous outcomes

Experience with signal processing, fraud, ranking, anomaly detection, or ML evaluation may translate well. Prior experience in audio, speech, desktop, or any particular product domain is not required.
