Back-end Engineer (Typescript, Node.js) at SignageOS
SignageOS is hiring a Back-end Engineer (Typescript, Node.js) in Prague, Czechia. On-site.
About SignageOS
signageOS is a device management platform for digital signage networks. It provides cross-platform control, remote monitoring, and automation for managing screens. The platform can manage various devices, build solutions, and operate large-scale networks. It also integrates with ChromeOS to add digital signage features to Google Device Management.
Back-end Engineer (Typescript, Node.js) job description
Most software companies build applications.
We build the infrastructure powering digital signage around the world.
There’s a good chance you’ve already encountered technology powered by signageOS - in McDonald’s, Starbucks, 7-Eleven, airports, retail stores, office buildings, and many other places globally.
Our hardware-agnostic platform enables customers to deploy, manage, monitor, and scale digital signage across dozens of hardware vendors, operating systems, and device types - all through a single cloud platform and unified API.
Today, signageOS powers 200,000+ connected devices across 60+ hardware platforms with 99.99% platform availability.
Build once. Deploy anywhere.
For our customers, that’s the promise. For our engineers, making it possible is the challenge.
Why this role is different
Most backend engineering jobs are about building business applications.
This one isn’t.
You’ll build the technology that hides the complexity of dozens of hardware vendors, operating systems, firmware versions, and unreliable networks behind a single developer experience.
That means dealing with:
- devices that go offline unexpectedly
- different hardware vendors implementing things differently
- firmware inconsistencies
- communication over unreliable networks
- remote diagnostics and monitoring
- systems that have to recover gracefully without human intervention
These aren’t edge cases. They’re the product.
What you’ll work on
Your work will include:
- Backend-first, building core platform services primarily with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Distributed systems handling asynchronous communication between cloud services and physical devices over unreliable networks.
- Platform architecture and shared capabilities that abstract dozens of hardware platforms behind a single developer experience.
- Reliability at scale, making infrastructure resilient when things inevitably go wrong.
While you’ll occasionally contribute across the stack, this is fundamentally a backend engineering role focused on the infrastructure everything else depends on.
Why engineers join signageOS
Infrastructure, not CRUD
Build technology other software companies rely on - not just another business application.
Real distributed systems
Work on cloud services coordinating 200,000+ devices worldwide.
Engineering over process
Small, senior team. Minimal bureaucracy. Fast technical decisions.
Own the architecture
Shape technical direction, challenge assumptions, and build better solutions - not just tickets.
Complex engineering challenges
Distributed systems, hardware abstraction, device communication, cloud infrastructure, observability, performance, reliability, and automation.
Our stack
TypeScript · Node.js · MongoDB · GraphQL · Kubernetes · AWS · GCP · React / Next.js
We actively use GitHub Copilot Workflows, Claude Code, and other AI tools to automate workflows, accelerate iteration, and eliminate repetitive engineering work.
