Software Engineer job description

Software Engineer

The Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to help us build the systems that power Lyrebird for tens of thousands of clinicians. You'll work closely with engineering and product to ship features, scale our systems, and take ownership of problems end to end - from the first line of code through to the impact it has on real users.

This role suits someone with a pioneering, curious mindset - someone who's motivated by ambiguity rather than slowed down by it, who communicates clearly, and who wants their work to matter well beyond the codebase. You'll enjoy the pace and autonomy of a fast-moving team, and the satisfaction of watching your work reach clinicians who rely on it every day.

About Us

Lyrebird Health is transforming the quality and accessibility of healthcare by automating clinicians' most time-consuming tasks.

Thousands of clinicians across multiple disciplines use Lyrebird every day in environments where accuracy, safety, and time matter deeply. Everything we build is grounded in earning trust, reducing cognitive load, and delivering meaningful impact at scale.

What you'll do

  • Make intentional contributions to a safe, reliable, and scalable software system

  • Collaborate closely with customers and internal teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience

  • Own problems end to end, from scoping through to shipping and support

  • Uphold best practices in code quality, testing, CI/CD, and the release process

  • Work across the stack, from TypeScript/Svelte on the frontend to Node.js/Sveltekit on the backend

  • Help build and refine tooling and infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and our LLM stack

What you'll bring

  • Professional experience shipping production-grade code

  • Deep experience with TypeScript across both frontend and backend

  • Solid understanding of APIs, cloud infrastructure, and modern development practices

  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Clear communication and a builder's mindset

  • Experience using Claude Code or other agentic coding assistants, with a clear-eyed view of their pitfalls

Nice to have

  • Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or ML/LLM tooling

  • A track record of taking a software product from zero to one in a highly regulated environment

  • Experience delivering solutions to large enterprise customers in a way that aligns with overall product strategy

  • Mastery of Claude Code or similar tools to streamline work while maintaining quality, reliability, and safety

At Lyrebird, you won't just write code, you'll help shape the future of the human experience. If you want to pioneer, to create, and to see your work touch lives directly, we'd love to hear from you.

We're building a team that reflects the diversity of the people who benefit from our work. We want Lyrebird to be a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. If you're from an underrepresented background in tech, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement.
