Senior Full Stack Engineer at Gritt AI

Gritt AI is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer in South San Francisco, CA, US. On-site.

About Gritt AI

Gritt provides an AI- and robotics-based system for construction work. The system operates on job sites to handle tasks such as pick-and-place, transport, and assembly in solar, concrete, and rebar applications. It can be added to common equipment using off-the-shelf attachments and minimal custom hardware.

Senior Full Stack Engineer job description

Gritt is an intelligent system that combines robotics and AI to build the infrastructure that pulls society forward. Gritt deploys via simple attachments to common equipment found on construction sites and autonomously performs labor-intensive tasks, verification, and planning. Gritt systems are already building critical infrastructure in the harshest outdoor environments, starting with large-scale solar. The founding team includes experts in robotics and AI from Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and MIT. Gritt is backed by Obvious Ventures, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Climactic, Congruent Ventures, and other leading firms.

Role: Senior Full Stack Engineer

Location: SF Bay Area (in-person)

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to own the software that sits between our robots and the people who rely on them - operators on job sites, and customers tracking progress on their projects. As an early member, you will design and build full-stack applications end-to-end: frontend, backend, and deployment, taking each from first prototype to production on active construction sites. Our fleet generates large volumes of telemetry, video, and sensor data every day, and increasingly our internal tools are becoming agentic - taking on monitoring, triage, and decision-making that used to require a human in the loop. You'll work in rapid iteration cycles, ship production code often, and see the direct results of your work in the field. Ideally, you have a proven track record of shipping full-stack software in production, and you're passionate about building tools that hold up in the real world, not just in a demo.

What you'll get to work on

  • Design and build full-stack cloud applications that monitor and control fleets of robots.

  • Develop internal and customer-facing tools for robot command, control, monitoring, and analytics - including fleet management and progress-tracking.

  • Build scalable backend services and APIs that ingest, process, and serve large-scale streaming and historical data from robot deployments across job sites.

  • Develop real-time frontend interfaces for robotics visualization, including 3D/spatial views of robot state and site progress.

  • Work with high-volume live video and telemetry streams for low-bandwidth remote oversight tools.

  • Design and manage the data layer behind these tools, including pipelines for large-scale ingestion, storage, and querying of fleet and sensor data.

  • Build and integrate agentic tools and workflows - from automated anomaly detection to AI-assisted decision support - that reduce manual oversight as our fleet scales.

  • Improve reliability, scalability, and observability across distributed systems handling data at fleet scale.

  • Debug and resolve issues as they arise in the field, and document new work to help it get adopted across the team.

What we look for

  • BS/MS in CS, Robotics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

  • 6+ years of experience building production-grade cloud applications and backend systems.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript, comfort with React or a similar frontend framework.

  • Experience with large-scale data infrastructure - streaming pipelines, message queues, or distributed data stores.

  • Experience with agentic AI systems, LLM-based tooling, or autonomous decision-making pipelines.

  • Experience with cloud infra, deployment and monitoring (AWS/GCP/Azure).

  • Experience delivering complete software products, from requirements through support in the field.

  • Comfortable taking ownership of tasks with light supervision, and communicating decisions clearly to the team.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with robotics/physical AI applications.

  • Experience with physical AI data.

  • Experience with Rust or Go.
